Size the entrance for your tallest and widest vehicle with mirrors, racks and lights. Drive-through booths with doors at both ends let tractors and coaches pull straight through instead of backing out.
Cab-only refinishing, full tractor-trailer jobs and coach work need very different lengths. Plan for the longest unit plus walking room at both ends.
Tall vehicles need lighting along the upper walls and safe access to the roof line. Scissor lifts or platforms are common, and booth height should allow for them.
Large booths move a lot of air. A properly sized heated air make-up unit keeps painters comfortable in winter and adds a bake cycle that shortens turnaround.
A prep station keeps sanding and masking out of the booth, and a mixing room keeps paint storage code compliant. Planned together, the booth spends more of the day spraying.
Truck booths are reviewed by the fire department, the building department and often the air district. PFS supplies layout drawings, ETL and UL 508A documentation and equipment data for the permit set.
For a Class 8 tractor, plan on at least 16 ft wide × 50 ft long × 14 ft tall inside. Painting tractor and trailer together typically needs 16–18 ft wide and 60–80 ft long.
Cross-flow is the most economical. Semi-downdraft and side downdraft improve finish quality without a pit. Full downdraft gives the cleanest finish and needs a pit or raised basement floor.

Any PFS booth can be built drive-through, with doors at both ends so tractors and coaches pull straight through, including cross-flow booths. When a cross-flow booth is heated or drive-through, it uses bridge plenums.
Yes. All PFS truck booths are available in heated versions for spray and bake. A heated air make-up unit, direct- or indirect-fired, gives the booth spray, flash and cure modes through the UL 508A PFS Core Control Panel. The bake cycle shortens turnaround, and the heat keeps painters comfortable in winter.
