PREP & SUPPORT

PFS Sanding Booth

A PFS sanding booth gives dry sanding, block sanding and surface prep its own dust-controlled room, away from the spray booth. Sanding dust is one of the most common causes of paint defects: when it drifts into the paint area it settles into the finish. Downdraft or cross-draft airflow pulls dust away from the worker and into the filter media at the source.

Drive-through and walk-in configurations, integrated dust collection and LED lighting packages are available. ETL/UL listed components, made in the USA.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Built for Clean, Dust-Free Prep

01

Source-capture airflow

Downdraft or cross-draft airflow carries sanding dust away from the operator’s breathing zone and into the filters.

02

High-efficiency filtration

Filter media sized for heavy dust loads, with integrated dust collection available for production sanding.

03

Full enclosure

Insulated steel walls and doors keep dust out of the rest of the shop and away from the paint booth.

04

Bright, even lighting

LED lighting packages show scratches and surface flaws before the part goes to paint.

05

UL listed components

ETL/UL listed components and controls, built and wired to code.

06

Sized to your work

Walk-in, drive-through and custom sizes for panels, vehicles and large industrial parts.

PLANNING GUIDE

Planning a Sanding Booth

Airflow, filtration and dust-safety items to plan first.

Sanding in the spray booth loads its filters with dust and leaves particles that end up in the next paint job. A dedicated sanding booth keeps prep dust out of the paint booth exhaust and lets the booth spend its time spraying.

Downdraft airflow pulls dust down through floor grating and gives the best capture around a whole vehicle or large part. Cross-draft airflow moves air horizontally across the work and needs no pit. Either way, the airflow should carry dust away from the operator.

Heavy, continuous sanding is best served by a dust collector with pulse-cleaned cartridges, which keep airflow steady without constant filter changes. Lighter or intermittent work can run on dry filter media.

Many sanding dusts, including fillers, composites, wood and metals, can be combustible. NFPA 652 calls for a dust hazard analysis (DHA) for processes that make combustible dust, and dust from aluminum, magnesium or titanium falls under NFPA 484. PFS can size the collection system around your DHA.

Good lighting is a quality tool in prep. Bright, even light makes scratches, pinholes and low spots visible before paint, not after.

Many shops put the sanding booth between body repair or fabrication and the prep station or paint booth, so parts move in one direction and dust never travels toward paint.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Sanding Booths — Common Questions

An enclosed, ventilated room for dry sanding and surface preparation. Its airflow captures sanding dust at the source so it does not spread through the shop or into the paint booth.

You can, but sanding dust loads the paint booth filters and contaminates the next finish. A separate sanding booth protects paint quality and frees the booth for spraying.

Downdraft gives the best capture around vehicles and large parts and needs a pit or raised floor. Cross-draft works on a flat slab and suits panels and smaller parts.

It can be. Many sanding dusts are combustible. NFPA 652 calls for a dust hazard analysis for combustible dust processes, and aluminum, magnesium and titanium dust falls under NFPA 484.

Yes. Walk-in, drive-through and custom sizes are available for vehicles, aircraft components and large industrial parts.
