CALIFORNIA PROJECT GUIDE

How a California Paint Booth Project Comes Together

What California buyers should plan for, wherever the facility is.

Most California booth projects go through the air district for the air permit, the local fire marshal or building department for the California Fire Code and building permit, and an electrical review. Each looks at different documents, so plan for all three from the start.

The 2025 California Building Standards Code (Title 24) took effect January 1, 2026. Spray finishing falls under California Fire Code Chapter 24, which is based on the 2024 International Fire Code, and booth wiring under the California Electrical Code. Cal/OSHA Title 8 covers spray coating ventilation and worker safety. See our California permitting guide and NFPA 33 guide.

  • Equipment drawings and booth layout
  • Filter efficiency data and spray gun specifications for the air permit
  • Exhaust and make-up air data
  • Electrical and control panel documentation (PFS panels are UL 508A)
  • Structural and seismic anchorage details where required

Climate changes the make-up air choice: coastal sites can often run non-heated, while inland and valley sites see wider temperature swings. See our AMU guide.
